Portable Emergency Radio Operations at Mease Countryside

On January 12, 2013 seven amateur radio members from B.E.A.R.S. (Bay area radio for the hospital and to recruit more volunteers to be radio operators in case of emergency. A radio was set up with an antenna stretched between two palm trees and run with 12 volt batteries(emergency power setup). During the day we made contact with amateur radio operators in Belgium, Germany, Lithuania, South Africa and Australia.

We also discussed amateur radio with eight people who stopped to talk with us. One young man who is still in school had his HAM license and is involved with Civil Air Patrol. Another may come to our next meeting. Several couples expressed interest in becoming involved. Numerous others, including hospital staff, just wanted to know what we were up to.
